THE PROGRAMS OF THE MICHIGAN PARKINSON FOUNDATION

To meet the needs of people with Parkinson's, their families and healthcare providers, MPF has developed many effective programs throughout Michigan. Among these programs are:
> Information and referral: toll-free telephone line to provide information as well as referral to neurologists and other community resources;
> Information regarding Parkinson’s and its management;
> Support groups, including orientation and training of facilitators;
> Educational programs for people with Parkinson's and their families;
> The Messenger, a quarterly newsletter;
> Education programs for physicians and healthcare professionals, including: a videotaped program for nursing home personnel, pamphlets and other resources;
> Financial assistance for daycare and medication;
> The Raymond B. Bauer Student Fellowship Award which is awarded annually to students in Michigan researching the mechanisms and effects of Parkinson’s disease.
> Advocacy at the state and national level regarding issues affecting people with Parkinson's and their families, including working with other organizations to improve access to resources.
> Information on research studies being conducted in Michigan is available through the Messenger or by contacting the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
> Michigan Parkinson Initiative Programs: multidisciplinary second opinion clinics, community educational forums, physician and other health professional education programs provided in local communities throughout the State.
