EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR PHYSICIANS AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

Parkinson's disease may be difficult to diagnose and requires skill to manage it in order for the patient to attain optimum health. MPF is committed to providing access for physicians and health care professionals to educational programs geared to enhancing their knowledge and skill in dealing with this complex condition.

The Michigan Parkinson Foundation and the Michigan Parkinson Initiative conduct programs for health professionals to assist them in learning more about Parkinson's disease and the care and management of people affected by this complex disorder. The following programs are to be presented in 2005. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Michigan Parkinson Foundation at (248)433-1011 or (800)852-9781 or Click here.

Clinical Experience

In conjunction with the Multidisciplinary Second Opinion Clinics, which will be conducted in the summer, there will be the opportunity for physicians, physical and occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, and nurses to attend the clinics to learn first hand about this multidisciplinary approach.

Training of Staff in Extended Care Facilities

A program is currently being developed, in conjunction with nursing consultants at the State of Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services, to provide programs to staff in nursing homes and other extended care facilities. MPF is seeking interested volunteer nurses and family members who would be willing to participate in a training program to enable them to go on site to instruct nursing home staff. Please contact the MPF office at (800)852-9781 to inquire about volunteer opportunities and/or scheduling a training session at your facility.
